Shepherd Search Group is partnered with Ballard Marine Construction to find their next Contracts Manager for their Home Office in Washougal, WA.   

Job Summary:

The Contracts Manager is responsible for management of contract review and negotiation, including pre-qualification agreements and requirements, bid clarifications and exclusions, and contract award negotiation of key terms and conditions.  Additionally, the Contracts Manager will assist in carrying out the department’s initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of review and negotiation of upstream and downstream project contracts from RFP stage through contract execution.
  • Manage review of and assist with negotiation of leases and other transactional contracts.
  • Provide support to Estimating and Operations in understanding contract terms and conditions and managing contract requirements.
  • Assist with development of policies, procedures and workflows related to all contract related matters and other processes impacted by CRL.
  • Assist with development of department training materials and presentations.
  • Participate in cross training and act as a backup in related areas when needed.
  • Effectively maintain positive and ethical working relationships with clients, vendors and internal customers.
  • Supervise other CRL department personnel including the Project Contracts Specialist and Contracts & Compliance Specialist
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the CRL Department Strategic Plan.
  • Actively support and promote ongoing development of LEAN processes in all CRL related areas.
  • Other duties as required.

Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field. The degree may be substituted with a minimum of 10+ years of practical experience in the construction industry.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience reviewing and negotiating construction contracts with clients in various industries is required.
  • At least 5 years of experience drafting and negotiating contracts with vendors and/or subcontractors from multiple disciplines within the construction industry is required.
  • Vendor management and/or compliance experience within the construction industry is preferred.

  • Ability to work with and effectively communicate, orally and in writing, to all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced team environment with a commitment to reach goals and meet deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and well-organized.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in MS Office and relevant software applications.
  • High-level computer skills with the ability to quickly learn new applications.

Physical Demands/ Working Environment:

  • Ability to lift twenty-five (25) pounds, bend, stoop, and work safely around equipment, materials, supplies, and other items to be handled.
  • Ability to work at a computer for multiple hours.
